Healthy Living With Simple Surf 3 and the Cloud

Medway Primary Care Trust upgraded their existing Info-Touch kiosk network providing their service users access to the NHS and Local Authorty web based services to the latest Simple Surf 3 software suite. This upgrade also included a complete redesign of the user access model to utilise a cloud based password system developed and hosted by CyberD, the cloud system also collects usage data and produces analysis reports in spreadsheet and graph formats.

CyberD provided full on site commissioning of the new system including servicing and moving the old units, connection to the structured cabling and configuring the network access (at terminal end), software upgrade and installation of new anti-virus definitions. After all units had been commissioned CyberD returned to present a complete staff training session.

Secure and Fast with Simple Surf 3

Each unit has been installed with CyberD's Simple Surf 3 and Secure Shell suite which provides complete interface security, website filtering, file type filtering and a recognisable user interface. The kiosk environment is continually monitored by CyberD's Watch Dog 3.1 application monitor (now bundled as standard with all Simple Surf 3 media) which launches the user interface and maintains uptime by detecting "hung" processes and restarting them. The Secure Shell suite allow standard keyboards to be used in public and protects the PC's operating syste from damage.

All access to the terminals is controlled by a cloud based password system, this system presents a user with a log on screen into which they enter a password given to them by the centre's staff, which changes daily or more often if forced and is unique to each centre. Simple Surf 3's restricted time mechanism is used to log the user off after an hour to maintain fair use of the system. To prevent the need of additional hardware within the cafe areas of the Healthy Living Centre's staff can use the terminals to access the daily password details or to reset it.

All access to the password database for generation or log in by users is recorded by the database server in a usage log which can be accessed via the cloud from an office or roaming web enabled device. All usage information can be viewed in graphical and numeric formats online or downloaded as a cross platform complient spreadsheet.

Easy Disabled Access

The combination of desk mounting, the four axis movement of the supporting arms and touch screen feature of the PCs offers enhanced access to users in wheelchairs or with restricted movement. As the keyboards and mice are not fixed to the desk these can be moved to suit the user's needs. These features are of utmost importance to local authority and medical installations, CyberD are keen to always fulfil these requirements when placing systems in public places.

Thinking Green with CyberD Power Management

The Secure Shell suite of applications incorperates an improved power management system which actively monitors the time and day only allowing the system to run when the administrator has specified. This system automatically powers off the system safely and only allows it to power up with in the allotted time slots.
