Next Generation Kiosk Gaming System
13th July 2006

CyberD have completed a major project for the premier international casino technology supplier TCS John Huxley to supply a gaming control software system utilizing internet kiosks. This system allows casino goers access to a leading online spread betting web site and online “instant games” developed to be played on the CyberD system.

The solution required a software mechanism to provide a TCP/IP socket based XML communication between a third party Macromedia Flash application and CyberD credit control drivers, ticket printer drivers and a complete ePOS system with SQL databasing within a cashless environment where bet tickets and winnings receipts are produced by the kiosk with a uniquely identifiable barcode which can be either redeemed at the casino bank or at the kiosk where a ticket’s cash value can be used on further bets and games.

The network is broken into two distinct parts connected by a secure communication protocol; the kiosk and the bank server. The kiosk system provides all the security elements of other CyberD kiosks such as intrusion protection via the Flash user interface and network, vital to protect the integrity of the operating system, maintain uptime and create a secure financial transaction environment. The kiosk solution also includes a coin mechanism, note validator with integrated barcode reader and a ticket printer. CyberD’s hardware control software allows all the gaming peripherals to communicate credit input to the Flash games and the banking database providing administrator an audit trail of any ticket produced or gaming session.

The banking server incorporates both the gaming database and full ePOS till system. The system is built around a CyberD supplied ePOS “all-in-one” style PC with resistive touch screen, hand held barcode reader and magnetic card reader. The ePOS software gives cashiers information about the kiosk network’s status and any alarms sent by the kiosks, allows ticket histories to be examined, access to an authorised staff member database and carries out credit card transactions from information taken from swiping a card. This system, as with the kiosk software, includes complete intrusion protection and can only be terminated by scanning an administrator barcode followed by entering the barcode owner’s username and password. The ePOS interface is also used to power off or suspend the kiosk control systems as that has no visible interface when running in gaming mode.

In additional to providing this complete software solution and ePOS hardware system, CyberD also acted as network security consultants ensuring that the casino’s network is unaffected by the security system implemented in this solution and that the kiosk/ePOS network is able to use a third party VPN to access gaming and financial information housed on the secure servers of the spread betting company promoting this system.

The system has successfully completed initial trials and has proved to be technically sound and robust. A national rollout of the system is expected soon.
