Kiosk PCs!
24th september 2003

Residents were eager to start
using the system.

It wasn't long before the cash box
had a secondary use!

Flint House

In continued support of the Police Force's drive to meet e-government targets CyberD(UK).com Ltd have supplied the Police Rehabilitation Centre, Flint House, Goring-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, with a "Pay-As-You-Go" internet terminal for the residents. The terminal offers residents with the ability to collect their web mail and surf the internet for as little as 10p. The Police Rehabilitation Centre is a convelescent retreat for serving and retired police officers and cadets nestled in the heart of the Chilterns. The centre offers everything from just relaxation to physio therapy, Interent access is an extension of the alreay excellent facilities.

To meet the challenge presented, CyberD built a total solution around our ever popular Arc-Line Terminal and the latest CyberD Kiosk XK browser. The system includes a 15" TFT monitor to reduce flicker and touch screen allow easy user by residents with hand and eye injuries, a Devlin stainless steel half travel keyboard and a trackball that also aids use for injured officers. The cash box is conveniently placed near the keyboard for easy access by users, and quickly became a place to stand their coffee!

Inside the box is CyberD's standard PC (type 1), a Mars Cashflow 330 coin mechanism and a PcCredit 4 interface board. Kiosk XK running on a Microsoft®Windows 2000 SP3 platform ties all the peripherals together seemlessly and offers the administrator a straight forward system settings panel allowing credit control to be changed, coin to channel settings to be changed and variable levels of protection against downloadable files. The physical nature of the Arc-Line allowed CyberD to also lock away the ADSL modem and all the associate power and comms cables so that only the power, printer and telephone cable are visible outside the unit.
